On 28 May 1914, 171 individuals headed to a Salvation Army convention in London boarded the Empress of Ireland at Québec and settled into 2nd Class quarters. Among them, were 40 male members of the Canadian Staff Band whose celebratory spirits prevailed in the music rooms in the hours leading up to the tragedy. Sadly, only 8 band members would survive.
To pay tribute to the lost Salvationists and shed light on the deep connection between the history of the ship and The Salvation Army, the organization’s Canadian Staff Band will travel from Toronto for a special performance at 14:00 in Hangar 14 on Saturday, June 1st.
